Background of the Study
The school feeding program, a flagship initiative under Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, aims to address issues of malnutrition, increase school enrollment, and improve educational outcomes for children in Nigeria. The program was launched in 2016 as part of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP), targeting public primary school students across various states in Nigeria. The initiative provides free meals to children in school, with the goal of improving their nutritional intake and encouraging school attendance, especially in rural and underserved areas.
In Jema’a, Kaduna State, the program was expected to have a positive impact, given the region's challenges with child malnutrition, low school enrollment rates, and poverty. Statement of the Problem
Despite the implementation of the school feeding program in Jema’a, concerns have been raised about its overall effectiveness. While the initiative was designed to improve school attendance and address malnutrition, there is a lack of comprehensive research on its direct impact in rural areas like Jema’a. Issues such as irregular food supply, poor implementation, and lack of community involvement have been identified as potential barriers to the success of the program. This study seeks to evaluate how well the school feeding program has achieved its intended goals in Jema’a, assessing its impact on school attendance, academic performance, and child nutrition.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will be limited to public primary schools in Jema’a and will not extend to other regions or other education-related initiatives under Buhari’s administration.
