Background of the Study
The school feeding program, a flagship initiative under Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, aims to address issues of malnutrition, increase school enrollment, and improve educational outcomes for children in Nigeria. The program was launched in 2016 as part of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP), targeting public primary school students across various states in Nigeria. The initiative provides free meals to children in school, with the goal of improving their nutritional intake and encouraging school attendance, especially in rural and underserved areas.

In Jema’a, Kaduna State, the program was expected to have a positive impact, given the region's challenges with child malnutrition, low school enrollment rates, and poverty. Jema’a, being a predominantly rural area, faced significant barriers to educational advancement, with many children unable to attend school regularly due to hunger and poverty. The introduction of the school feeding program aimed to mitigate these challenges by ensuring that children had at least one nutritious meal per day, thus improving both their health and learning capacity.

This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of Muhammadu Buhari’s school feeding program in Jema’a, Kaduna State, examining its impact on school attendance, academic performance, and nutritional outcomes for children in the region.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the implementation of the school feeding program in Jema’a, concerns have been raised about its overall effectiveness. While the initiative was designed to improve school attendance and address malnutrition, there is a lack of comprehensive research on its direct impact in rural areas like Jema’a. Issues such as irregular food supply, poor implementation, and lack of community involvement have been identified as potential barriers to the success of the program. This study seeks to evaluate how well the school feeding program has achieved its intended goals in Jema’a, assessing its impact on school attendance, academic performance, and child nutrition.

  1. To evaluate the impact of Muhammadu Buhari’s school feeding program on school attendance in Jema’a, Kaduna State.

  2. To assess the effect of the school feeding program on the academic performance of primary school children in Jema’a.

  3. To examine the influence of the school feeding program on the nutritional status of children in Jema’a.

Research Questions

  1. How has Muhammadu Buhari’s school feeding program impacted school attendance in Jema’a, Kaduna State?

  2. What effect has the school feeding program had on the academic performance of primary school children in Jema’a?

  3. How has the school feeding program influenced the nutritional status of children in Jema’a?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Muhammadu Buhari’s school feeding program has significantly improved school attendance in Jema’a, Kaduna State.

  2. The school feeding program has positively affected the academic performance of primary school children in Jema’a.

  3. The school feeding program has improved the nutritional status of children in Jema’a.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on evaluating the school feeding program in Jema’a, Kaduna State, and its impact on school attendance, academic performance, and child nutrition. The study will be limited to public primary schools in Jema’a and will not extend to other regions or other education-related initiatives under Buhari’s administration.
